At around 6 p.m. on Thursday, an officer was hit at the intersection of South Eastern Avenue and East Windmill Lane while clearing a previous traffic accident.
Police believe the driver intentionally hit the officer, but the officer held onto the car and was able to roll off into the roadway. Police said it appeared that the driver was impaired in some way as he had a blank look in his eyes.
The officer was then transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the driver then proceeded to travel westbound on Windmill, where he crashed into another car at the intersection of Spencer Street. The woman inside that vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Two men then got out of the hit and run vehicle and ran off, jumping over a wall. The passenger was caught quickly by police who then spent several hours looking for the driver, who was reportedly taken into custody at around 10:30 p.m.
