Fatal Bus Crash in Las Vegas

On Saturday, September 5, there was a fatal bus crash in Las Vegas caused by a drunk driver.

According to Metro Police, the accident happened at around 7 a.m. on the 1100 block of South Main Street at Charleston Boulevard. A 1990 BMW 540i being driven by 24 year old Jonathan Donner, ran a red light and hit a Chevrolet tour bus, which made the bus flip over and crash into a 2010 Ford F-150, being driven by 32 year old Sean Poe of Las Vegas. The tour bus then caught fire.

The driver of the tour bus, 53 year old Francisco Cosenza from Las Vegas was killed along with a 34 year old man from Germany. Three other passengers escaped from the bus. Stefanie Kloeppke, aged 30 of Germany was taken to University Medical Center and her condition is unknown. Also injured were 39 year old Brian Zerbee and 34 year old Sara Zerbee both from Iowa. Brian is in stable condition and Sara has been released from UMC. Poe was uninjured

Donner had minor injuries and he faces two counts of DUI resulting in death and three counts of DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm. Shortly before the accident the police had been called from a bar to say Donner was drunk and had gotten in his BMW and driven off.

The crash is still being investigated and the deaths were the 67th and 68th traffic-related fatalities in Metro Police’s area this year.
