Crash Injures Students and Las Vegas Resident Charged

On Wednesday, May 27 a crash injured four SAIT students and a Las Vegas resident is now facing charges.

According to Las Vegas police, the crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Dean Martin Drive, which is located west of the strip.

A semi tractor trailer unit being driven by 44 year old Bernard Tropp, was travelling southbound and entered the two-way turn lane to head into the northbound lane. At the same time, a Dodge Caravan taxi was travelling in the northbound lane and it swerved to the left to try and miss the truck as it entered but was hit head on by the semi. The truck ended up in the parking lot of an industrial complex and the driver, Tropp fled the scene on foot. The occupants of the taxi van, who were all from Calgary, were taken to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas.

Witnesses at the scene told police where the driver of the semi had gone and they found him and took him into custody where he failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for suspicion of DUI-Liquor and Felony Hit and Run.
