On Wednesday, a judge decided that 29 year old Galina Kilova should appear before a jury charged with killing 63 year old Michael Grubbs, who she hit with her car as he was pushing his granddaughter in a stroller on the side of a southwest valley roadway.
Her defense attorney tried to prove that she did not know she had hit him and that the state did not have sufficient evidence to bring the case. However witnesses identified her and one said she was driving erratically.
Kilova turned herself in to police a week after the hit and run incident and is currently being held on $100,000 bail in the Clark County Detention Center. She faces one count of leaving the scene of an accident with injury or death.
She was initially released on bond but later was detained by U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement because her non-immigrant visa ran out six months after she entered the United States in 2006, having arrived in the country from Bulgaria.
The prosecution highlighted that in 2007, Kilova was convicted in a drunken-driving crash and was uncooperative with authorities during the investigation. In addition she was cited earlier this year for having an open container of alcohol while in a vehicle.
